Bicentenary Pipeband Championship

Inveraray and District Grade 1 PipeBandIn 2017 the Bicentenary Pipe Band Championships were held in a new venue, East King Street Park, Helensburgh which proved very popular with competing pipe bands and the public. In glorious weather, 25 pipe band performances took place throughout the day in Grades Novice Juvenile, Juvenile, Grade 4, Grade 3 and Grade 2. Local band Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band won Best Band on Parade while North Lanarkshire Schools Juvenile Pipe Band were overall winners both in Juvenile and Grade 2, when they played up! The highland dancing competition was once again held in Victoria Halls and local overall winner was Catriona Gammons, from the Margaret Rose School of Dance.

Kintyre Schools PB BPC 2015 overall winnersThe opening parade to the park at 12 noon was led by Chieftain Maurice Corry MSP and BPC Chairperson, Colina Helen Campbell, followed by Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band, highland dancers from Margaret Rose School of Dance, VIP's and a group of invited guests from ENABLE. Following the Chieftain's opening speech all the dancers were presented with medals at the platform.

After the pipe band competitions concluded, a spectacular march past of massed pipe bands took place at East King Street Park in front of the Chieftain who took the salute and presented the band trophies. The massed bands then played a rousing rendition of Scotland the Brave before marching from the field at the end of a perfect day!
